EOL wants govt explanation on journalist killing

KABUL: (March 11): Eslahonline.net strongly condemns killing of local journalist Javed Ahmad Kakar in Kandahar and asks for explanation of the government in this regard as his family members suggest that local intelligence officials might be involved.
Javed Ahmad was gunned down in one of the safest areas of Kandahar city Tuesday evening.
He was working with Iran-based Press TV and Canadian media.
Eslahonline.net (EOL) and its sister media outlets, Eslah FM and Eslah-e-Milli Weekly, are deeply grieved and shocked by killing of a proactive member of the flourishing media family in Afghanistan.
We ask the government to carry out an immediate thorough investigation into the cold-blood murder of Javed Ahmad and put an end to the custom of keeping tight-lipped on such cases.
Family members of the journalist said Javed Ahmad received threats from some officials in the local intelligence department and suggested that the local officials might be behind the murder.
This is the second Afghan journalist to be killed within an year in the south mysteriously.
Last year, Abdul Samad Rohani, another journalist, was killed in Helmand with no detailed investigations about his murder yet.
EOL asks all the media outlets and journalists in Afghanistan to raise a strong protest against the government if it remains indifferent about Javed Ahmad's murder and fails to provide a realistic probe into the case.
